Lomond

Lomond Wines was launched in 2004, the result of a joint venture between liquor distribution giant Distell and Lomond Properties. In 2017 Geoff McIver and David Mostert bought Distell's shareholding in Lomond Wines. The farm is located on the slopes of the Ben Lomond Mountain just outside the fishing town of Gansbaai. Legend has it that the Ben Lomond Mountain was named by the Scottish survivors of the HMS Birkenhead which sank off Danger Point in 1852. In Scotland, the dam below Ben Lomond was called Loch Lomond so it seemed fitting to name the new wine estate Lomond.Wayne Gabb, one of the shareholders in Lomond Properties plays an active role in the business. He is passionate and committed to protecting the environment and conserving the naturally occurring indigenous vegetation on the farm. Lomond is a member of the Walker Bay Conservancy and Biodiversity and Wine Initiative and the first wine estate to enter into a Conservation Servitude with Fauna and Flora International to protect the endangered Elim fynbos.Their first vintage was in 2015- they released two unique Sauvignon blancs, both were named after the fynbos found on the farm.
