Luddite Wines

Luddite Wines was established by the larger than life Niels Verburg and his wife Penny. With Niels’ passion for Shiraz it was no surprise that his first vintage was a Shiraz, using grapes sourced from other farms and launched in 2000 when he was still the winemaker at Beaumont Wines. The following year they planted Shiraz vineyards on the Luddite farm situated on the slopes of the Houw Hoek mountain and in 2004 they produced their first vintage of Shiraz made from their own grapes. The definition of “Luddite” is people opposed to new technology that causes change. This sums up Niels’ winemaking philosophy of minimal intervention.Luddite added a Chenin Blanc to their offering and launched a new label Saboteur to house their Red and White blends.
