Situated just outside the cool Atlantic ocean’s seaside town of Hermanus is Hemel-en-Aarde, meaning Heaven and Earth in Afrikaans. Boasting three distinct wine appellations that all fall within the Walker Bay district; Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge are all home to some of South Africa’s most iconic wine producers. All three wine wards have unique terroir, soil structures, topography, elevation, distance from the ocean, wind-influence, micro-climates and so much more, resulting in subtle differences and nuances in their vineyards, grapes and ultimately their wines.
